National Grid NIA and SIF Project Proposal Submission

To develop the network of the future, we are always on the lookout for innovative ideas that are under development.

The best way to make contact with us is to submit a description of your innovation and what you have already done to develop the idea via the form below. In all instances, we will commit to giving you some short written feedback within 4 weeks.

For any persons looking to collaborate with us on round three of the SIF, please be aware of our following milestones for project development.

The deadline for the submission of ideas for round three of the SIF to NGED is 21st of August 2023. Please submit all ideas below.

We will provide you with an indication as to whether your idea has been shortlisted by the 25th of September.

Should your idea be one of the ideas that we select to take forwards, we will contact you prior to the week commencing the 6th of October and we would expect you to be available to contribute to the project application process throughout October.

NIA Project must have the potential to have a Direct Impact on a Network Licensee’s network or the operations of the System Operator and involve the Research, Development, or Demonstration of at least one of the following, please select

A specific piece of new (i.e. unproven in GB, or where a Method has been trialled outside GB the Network Licensee must justify repeating it as part of a Project) equipment (including control and communications systems and software); A specific novel arrangement or application of existing electricity transmission and/or electricity distribution equipment (including control and/or communications systems and/or software); A specific novel operational practice directly related to the operation of the GB Transmission System and/or the GB Distribution System; or A specific novel commercial arrangement.
