Emergency repairs needed in Plymouth city centre

Urgent roadworks to fix a critical electricity circuit in Plymouth city centre start on Monday (13 May) and drivers are being warned of potential travel disruption.

We’ll be closing the inbound lane at the Exeter Street junction into Bretonside and putting a diversion in place. The outbound carriageway will be reduced to one lane at the same junction.

The emergency work, which could last up to three weeks, is needed to fix a fault on an extra high voltage underground cable.

Network Specialist Martyn Hallam said: “This work is urgently needed and essential to ensure the security of the power supply to the majority of the city centre.

“We plan to maintain power supplies, as well as access, to homes and businesses throughout the repairs and will be working hard to minimise disruption.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this work will cause in this busy area of the city and thank people in advance for their patience.”

Work at the junction of Bretonside and Exeter Street will begin at 10am on Monday 13 May.
